MAY, 25th 2010

Jason, Brendan, and Jack traveled to Canada in search big Pike and Brook Trout with fly rods. Early hot weather put both species deep and made it impossible to find them with flys. The warm weather did, however,  put Small Mouth Bass on the “beds” and gave us an alternative with spinning gear. We caught several big Smallies and 2-3 Northerns ( Brendan’s with his fly rod).

We had a great time cruising the big lake in our bass boats and led by terrific guide Carl D’Amour also had a great time finding and catching several big Small Mouth Bass. Lodging and meals were as good as it gets.

Our good friend and hunting partner Lyle passed away May 20th, 2010. Lyle and Lori have been good friends and a huge part of Windy Creek Farm since we purchased it! To say that we’ll miss him is an understatement, to say that things won’t be the same is also an understatement. Life gives you a limited number of true friends; Lyle was one! Life gives you precious few friends that are like family; and Lyle was that! Not a day will go by that we wont think of him and miss him..especially when we’re here at the farm!

…..he was loved by us then and he still is….

Lyle

Our thoughts and Prayers are with Lori and Lyle’s entire family!

Annie, Dusty, Jack with Wisconsin Series Awards

Our Windy Creek Dogs didn’t fare well at The Invitational. They both, however, were honored at the Wiseries Banquet.
Annie received her awards for runner up ” Singles Pointer Dog of the Year” and 3rd place ” Doubles Pointer of the Year”.
The singles competition was hard fought all year with Willi Hanson’s terrific dog Danno edging Annie by .55 points. Dusty
was honored for winning “Doubles Pointer Dog of the Year”. Dusty pulled ahead of Jamie Palmers’ shorthair Trigger at
the last event to win by slightly over 5 points. Special thanks to Kevin Kimmes, Jamie Palmer, Craig Steinbach, and
Dick Hynes for handling Annie and Dusty and to Craig and Terri Steinbach for running the best series in Tournament
hunting.

Annie and Dusty finished the season at the D.O.G.S. Championships in Dallas, SD at Southfork Lodge. The weather was
wet, cold, and windy ( typical South Dakota) but the competition among the 20 dogs entered in Top Gun Pointer was excellent and the tournament and banquet were great. Jack and Dusty finished 5th over all. Dusty was awesome and would have finished higher if poor shooting hadn’t forced him to make a 100 yard retrieve ( partly in water) on his second bird. Thanks to Darik Tschetter and Angie Olmsted of The Dakota Outdoor Gundog Series and Rick Lutt of Southfork Lodge for running a great tournament.
